Want to become a volunteer firefighter?

Becoming a volunteer firefighter takes some steps. It is not as easy as just showing up one day and getting a new pair of turnouts and helmet handed to you.

  1. You need to be 18.
  2. You will need to have graduated from a fire academy. There are lots of colleges locally that offer an accredited fire academy. This academy will not only help you when you are out in the field, it will help you to see that being a firefighter is not an easy task.
  3. You will need your State of California EMT or Paramedic card. These classes are offered both through private agencies and through local colleges. The majority of our calls are medical in nature, so by that virtue, you need to have medical training. An EMT class will teach you the basics of assessing and treating a sick or injured patient, while a Paramedic class will expand on your EMT knowledge and allow you to perform advanced medical techniques such as placing an IV and administering life saving drugs.
  4. You will need a clean driving record and to pass a background check.
  5. Apply and Interview. Once you have everything above, then the real fun begins....the interview. Our interviewers will ask you a series of questions to try and weed out the good candidates from the bad.

If you have the right stuff, we would love to invite you into our family. Fill out the form below and one of our staff will contact you.
